5/11/2014

The Saint John Paul II National Shrine joined with Donald Cardinal Wuerl and people throughout the nation to celebrate the canonizations of Saint John XXIII and Saint John Paul II at a special Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday May 11th at Noon at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. The Mass concluded with a procession of the Blood Relic of Saint John Paul II from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception to the Saint John Paul II National Shrine. The procession route was approximately six tenths of a mile in length. Immediately following the Procession there was a Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Prayer for the Intercession of Saint John Paul II, and a Blessing with the Relic of Saint John Paul II.

The Shrine was open immediately following the Mass of Thanksgiving to receive the procession and remained open until 5:00pm. Veneration of the Blood Relic of Saint John Paul II, our interim exhibit “Be Not Afraid: the Life and Legacy of John Paul II”, and the Gift Shop were  available to the public immediately following the Divine Mercy Chaplet and remained available until 5:00pm.
