Love of Church and country inspires Knights to promote civic duty and charitable activities in their communities and throughout the world.
Civic Involvement
Members' civic involvement comes in many forms. Knights sponsor campaigns urging citizens to vote. They take part in community recreation programs, patriotic observances, penal reform programs and cultural activities. K of C councils regularly recognize outstanding civil servants, police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and other key figures in their communities by presenting them with certificates of merit.
One Nation, Under God
The Knights of Columbus was instrumental in getting the words "Under God" added to the Pledge of Allegiance (pdf, 259k).
Blue Mass
Knights are encouraged to honor police, fire, law enforcement and emergency medical personnel by sponsoring Blue Masses in their communities.
Dedication to Patriotism
The Fourth Degree of the Order, through active membership in local units called assemblies, fosters the spirit of patriotism by promoting responsible citizenship and a love of and loyalty to the Knights' respective countries.
