As a way to serve those men deployed as members of the armed forces in Iraq, members of St. Paul’s Parish Council 11634 in Colorado Springs, Colo., working with council member Lt. Col. Nicholas Scopellite and Chaplain Father Joseph Orlandi, formed Victory Round Table to serve Coalition soldiers stationed in Iraq. This round table, which began with two Knights, has since its formation grown to more than 30 Knights. The round table is truly “international” with Knights from Italy, Canada, Poland and the United States.

Supreme Chaplain Bishop William E. Lori,  Past State Deputy Jerald E. Nothstine and his wife Millie, Past Grand Knight and Mrs. Donald Ward, State Deputy Calude A. Trujillo and his wife Victoria, and Dorian and Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson.

To assist the round table, the council worked to develop procedures for the screening of candidates and to process the candidates’ paperwork, and to purchase all the support items needed such as a set of ceremonial robes, First Degree kits and membership cards. The round table has conducted more than five First Degree exemplifications in Iraq.

Members of the Camp Victory Round Table show the virtue of charity by contributing as much money as they can to support the St. Basil Catholic Church and School located in downtown Baghdad.

Second Place: Cardinal Bernardin Council 12263
Bluffton, South Carolina
Bob's Wish

The greatest obligation a Knight has is to care for a brother Knight and his family in a time of need. The members of Cardinal Bernardin Council  12263 met that obligation through the devotion they showed to a fellow council member who had been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease and who had the wish to spend his remaining time in his own home.

For more than a year and a half, every day of the week, council members would arrive at their brother’s home at 8 a.m. to assist his wife in moving him to a shower chair to bathe. In the evening Knights would transfer him to his bed. If a caregiver was needed, a Knight always stepped forward to help out. The council members put in more that 2,000 hours in caring for their brother Knight up until the moment of his death.

Third Place: St. Michael's, Council 7311
Grand Ledge, Michigan
Wild Game and Dinner Auction

Since 1994, as a way to provide the opportunity for members to become involved in the community, take on leadership positions, and most of all enjoy the company of their brother Knights, members of St. Michael’s Council  7311 have sponsored a Wild Game Dinner and Auction. The organizers of the event work to make all attendees — more than 270 — feel welcome at this fraternal charitable event. The proceeds from the event benefited charities throughout the area, including a local fire department and a food bank.

Fourth Place: Biloxi, Council 1244
Biloxi, Mississippi
Wheelchair Ramp for a Brother Knight

Members of Biloxi (Miss.) Council 1244 gave the gift of mobility to a fellow Knight when they constructed a wheelchair ramp to the front door of his home. Prior to this, the Knight had to bump his wheelchair down ten concrete steps to leave his home.

Working with financial assistance from the Samaritan’s Purse, the Knights with the assistance of volunteers from a nearby Air Force base and Hands on America, not only constructed the ramp, but also were also able to handle some other small projects around the home. The ramp installation not only included constructing the wooden ramp, but also reconfiguring the terrain of the house’s front yard.
