Family day for the 192nd Tactical Fighter Wing of the Virginia Air National Guard

Bishop Peter L. Ireton Council 6189 in Richmond, Va, decided to undertake the largest, most ambitious project in its history. Understanding the importance of the family and how hard it must be for military families at times, they decided to host a family day for the 192nd Tactical Fighter Wing of the Virginia Air National Guard. This project required long days of detailed preparation, many hands and generous hearts.

On Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, Council 6189 — more than 68 members strong — put their plan into action. They arrived at the Sandston Facility, home of the 192nd, and began to serve the Air National Guardsmen and their families. More than 1,100 soldiers and their families partook of this banquet prepared and served by the council.

Col. Jay M. Pearsall, the Wing commander, publicly expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the work the council had done which demonstrated their appreciation for the Air National Guard and their families’ service to our nation.

State Deputy Leonardo Pulizzi and Past State Deputy Isaias Alba, III, and his wife Joann accompanied Past Grand Knight and Mrs. Gene Zimmerman in accepting the award on behalf of Council 6189.

Second Place: Archbishop Johnson, Council 6767

Project Title: Knights Families, Reaching Out to Families in Need

Christmas is a time of giving and the Archbishop Johnson Council  6767 did just that. They raised over $17,000 to help 35 families in need have a memorable Christmas. The Knights united their forces with other organizations within the parish and worked hard to make this family project a success.
