It is an honor and pleasure for me to congratulate the Supreme Order of the Knights of Columbus on their 125th Anniversary. The founding principles of your Order, “Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism,” have guided your organization throughout its distinguished history, and have contributed to unite peoples all over the World.

Since Father Michael J. McGivney founded the Order of the Knights of Columbus in the United States in 1882, the organization has grown into one of the world's most important Catholic fraternal benefit societies. A charitable haven for those in need seeking support on a wide range of issues, the Order brings together nearly two million members to do good deeds while celebrating the teachings of the Bible and the Catholic Church.

Congratulations, also, to the Knights of Columbus for setting a new record for charitable giving and volunteer service in 2006, with contributions to charity reaching an all time high of $143,816,004, up by more than. $4 million from 2005.

In Puerto Rico, the Order of the Knights of Cplumbus (Caballeros de Colón) was established in 1911, and currently has some 5,000 members who are dedicated to its mission.

The Knights make inestimable contributions to our community, helping raise funds for worthy causes such as scholarships for students and providing assistance for disaster relief. The people of our Island are grateful for the service of the Knights because, whenever the need arises, they are always ready to lend a helping hand.

In these challenging times, may the virtues of your organization be embraced by all you so generously touch.

Thank you for your inspiration and example. Please, receive my very best wishes for a very successful Supreme Convention in Nashville.
