Time and Talent Transform Camp

DALLAS — Seven months of hard work by the Knights of Columbus of Swift Current Council 3031 brought new life to a 55-year-old Catholic youth camp operated by the Archdiocese of Regina, Sask.

For their efforts, the members of Swift Current Council 3031 received the Knights of Columbus international Youth Activity Award. Robert Turgeon, grand knight of the Swift Current Knights, accepted the award on behalf of his council at the Knights’ international convention in Dallas, Texas, Aug. 4.

The Swift Current Knights converted one building into a cabin, repaired a shower facility, and rebuilt water and sewage systems. They also built a new dock on the lake at the camp. When a flu epidemic threatened to close the camp in the middle of the season, the Knights disinfected it, keeping it safe and open for campers.

There are more than 11,000 Knights in Saskatchewan. In 2003 they reported raising more than $2 million for charity and volunteering nearly 700,000 hours of service.
