NEW HAVEN, CT — For the first time in its 121-year history, the Knights of Columbus has had annual insurance sales in excess of $5 billion. As of Dec. 21, the fraternal insurance company reported life insurance sales just over $5 billion. In 2002, the Knights had $4.5 billion in sales.

In announcing the figures, Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson said the Knights of Columbus had proven itself once again to be an insurer that offers "strength, stability and security" to its members who are policyholders.

"This is a record of which we can all be proud," said Anderson. "Special thanks must go to the Order's 1,400 general and field agents who are helping fellow Knights protect their families through the sale and service of our top-rated products." He said the Knights would work to exceed $50 billion of insurance in force in 2004. The Knights of Columbus is rated A++ (Superior) by the A. M. Best Co., and AAA (Extremely Strong) by Standard & Poor's. It also has earned high marks for ethical standards in sales and promotion from the Insurance Marketplace Standards Association.
