Hanford Council 2343 teamed with the Hanford Soroptimists and Mervyns department store to host a back-to-school shopping spree for underprivileged children. Knights cooked breakfast for 300 children and their chaperones. The children were then given $100 each to purchase school supplies for the upcoming academic year.

Santa Clara Valley Council 6016 in Newhall sponsored a blood drive last July 8.

Children at Casa de Cuna Orphanage in Tijuana, Mexico, wave flags in greeting as their new van arrives. St. Charles Council 7903 in Imperial Beach donated the used van to the nuns who run the orphanage after discovering that the facility had no permanent means of transportation.

St. Lucy Council 12542 in West Long Beach co-sponsored a town hall meeting on health care and pollution with the Interfaith Community Organization (ICO). The meeting’s goal was to ask state legislative representatives to fund initiatives on reducing air pollution and reforming health care. Among those in attendance were four state representatives and members of the governor’s office.

Bishop McGrath Council 3299 in Prineville sponsors a Respect Life Mass each month at its parish. Knights gather to pray the rosary and present their petitions for the respect of all life.

The Puget Sound Blood Centers recognized four K of C councils in South King County for their efforts in running successful blood drives. The councils have organized 106 blood drives since 1994. The councils recognized were: St. Joseph Council 7528 and St. Theresa Council 7908, both in Federal Way, Kent Council 8150 and Rainier Council 9637 in Buckley.

Obadiah Council 7642 in Kirkland donated $500 to the Puget Sound USO Lounge at the Seatac International Airport. The funds will help support military personnel passing through the airport.

Obadiah Council 7642 in Kirkland held its annual Holy Family Golf Tournament to benefit Angelorum Pregnancy Services and to celebrate the retirement of Father Gary Morelli. The event raised $500.

Obadiah Council 7642 in Kirkland held its annual family camping trip Aug. 10-12. Knights, their families and potential members were invited to a weekend of fun and games culminating in a barbecue.
