Over the past two years, Knights from several councils have raised more than $7,000 to help fund Cynthia Buttjer’s education at the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Lending support have been: Marquette Council 842 in Iowa City, Laurent Council 1305 in Muscatine, Windthorst Council 1457 in Harper, Washington Council 2008 and Richmond-Wellman-Riverside Council 12212. The Supreme Council has supported the institute since its opening in 1988.

Msgr. Daniel J. Lenihan Council 5544 in Cedar Rapids hosted an appreciation night for parish altar servers and their families. Attendees were treated to a cookout and a local minor league baseball game.

North Topeka Council 2608 held a garage sale for a brother Knight who unexpectedly moved to a nursing home and had to sell his house. The event, which also served to clean the home before its sale, raised more than $600.

Christ the King Council 8411 in Topeka held its annual "Night at the Ballpark" for area priests. Knights, their families and nine priests attended a game between the Kansas City Royals and the New York Yankees.

Duane Sanocki of Nazareth Council 4021 in St. Paul and his wife, Nancy (left) present Drs. James and Christy O’Dea with a $1,000 check to continue their mission work in Santa Lucia, Honduras. The O’Dea family has committed to providing two years of prenatal and infant health care at the Ombro a Ombro Clinic in Santa Lucia. Also pictured are two of the O’Deas’ children: Marin, 7, and Maura, 6. Their youngest son, Jack, 2, is not present.

Northfield Council 1516 donated $400 to the Northfield Soccer Association (NSA). The council also volunteered at the NSA’s annual tournament. Knights served food to the players and parents of more than 60 teams.

Mark Hecker, a member of Father James J. Wallace Council 6794 in Independence, presents an award to an unnamed recipient during the 5K Truman Run to benefit Nativity of Mary School. Council 6794 sponsored the event, which saw more than 300 runners compete. The race raised $4,300 for the school.

Members of Pope St. Pius X Council 6871 in Lebanon check their music prior to Mass. Council members perform all of the lay liturgical roles every fifth Sunday and started an all-Knights choir to provide music.

Members of Holy Family Council 13975 in Shell Knob distribute food to the campers and staff of Camp Re-NEW-all at Roaring River State Park. Knights hosted a barbecue for the 95 people, mostly fifth- through ninth-grade students seeking to deepen their relationship with God while interacting with other campers and surrounded by nature.

St. Andrew’s Council 8400 in Holts Summit donated $600 to build a house for a needy family in Haiti through the Haitian House Foundation.

Members of Wahoo Council 1833, Bishop John Neumann Circle 253, and the Saunders County Right to Life group marched in the annual county fair parade.

Members of St. Mary and Joseph Council 8625 in Valparaiso frame a new garage at the home of Knight Jeff Draper. Draper and his family lost their home in a fire, and Knights helped by building a garage at the Draper family’s new house.

Louis, a native of Huahuantengango, Guatema, displays a cross he hung among the new plumbing at his parish. David Clemens, a plumber and member of Our Lady of Lourdes Council 13080 in Omaha, traveled to Guatemala to install a water treatment system at a local church. Omaha Knights and parishioners at several local churches provided financial assistance for Clemens’ mission trip.

Wahoo Council 1833 donated $1,000 to the Bishop Neumann School bus fund. The money will aid the school in purchasing a new bus to transport students.

St. Mary and Joseph Council 8625 in Valparaiso erected more than 800 feet of new fencing at the Carmelite Sisters’ convent in Agnew. Ten Knights competed the fence in little over a week.

American Charity Council 11822 in Friend-Exeter presented newly ordained priest Father Ben Holdren with a traveling Mass kit.

Members of St. Wenceslaus Council 8839 in Dickson take a break while dismantling pews at their parish. Knights removed all pews and kneelers from the church so they could be restored and a new floor installed. When the restoration was complete, Knights reassembled the pews in preparation for a wedding the following day.

Msgr. George P. Arberle Assembly in Dickson provided an honor guard during the Catholic Daughters of America officers installation ceremony, held during the organization’s annual convention May 4-6.

Lidgerwood Council 4778 treated 32 area altar servers from six local parishes to a Redhaws minor league baseball game.

Father Richard Stansberry of St. Francis of Assisi Church blesses a Project Gabriel sign while Nick Ranck of St. Francis-Eugene Memorial Council 4601 in Oklahoma City looks on. Council 4601 raised more than $500 to have the sign erected on the church grounds. Project Gabriel is a pro-life program that offers support to women in crisis pregnancies.
