Knights from several councils in Kentucky joined forces with Vincent J. Gleason Council 5207 in Knoxville, Tenn., to assist newly appointed Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville move into his home and offices at the Louisville chancellery. Archbishop Kurtz is a member of Knoxville Council 14341 and was appointed to the Louisville Archdiocese from Knoxville.

Bishop Van de Ven Council 3200 in Alexandria hosted a fundraiser for Sam Carnette, a local man who has leukemia. Knights helped with ticket sales and cooking for the event.

St. Basil the Great Council 10721 in Lafayette helped the St. Basil youth group with its barbecue fundraiser. Knights cooked hamburgers for the event, which raised more than $400.

St. Joseph Council 12163 in Milton presented K of C rosaries to all catechumens at St. Joseph Church.

St. James the Less Council 8912 in Corinth used money from its annual fund drive for people with intellectual disabilities to purchase a passenger van for Timber Hills Mental Health Services.

Brother Reinhart Schroeder Council 9409 in West Biloxi held a yard sale to benefit seminarian José Vasquez. The event raised $1,000 to offset the cost of Valquez’s ordination as a transitional deacon. The council also held a blood drive that netted 65 pints of blood for the Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Przemyslaw Krzemieniecki, Adam Hac and Michal Szczerba from Warsaw (Poland) Council 14271 enjoy a light moment while receiving their Second and Third Degree in Biloxi. The three Knights, who were touring the U.S. following the Supreme Convention, dropped in to take part in the exemplification, held in honor of Father Michael J. McGivney’s birthday Aug. 12.

F. Randolf Howell Assembly in Columbia provided a grilled lunch for about 60 National Guard soldiers stationed at the National Guard Armory in Columbia. Knights cooked hamburgers and hot dogs, and treated soldiers to cake and soda.

Santa Maria Council 6065 in Plano presented Deacon Jason Cargo with several ordination gifts, among them a series of standalone hardbound books from the Bible. Cargo was ordained a priest Aug. 11.

Harry E. McKillop of New World Council 9903 in McKinney accepts the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service from U.S. President George W. Bush during a ceremony in Waco Aug. 20. McKillop was presented the award for his work in releasing U.S. POWs from conflict zones around the world for the past 40 years. McKillop was also featured in the book By Their Works, which includes profiles of famous Knights from throughout the Order’s history.

St. Ignatius Loyola Council 10861 in Spring held a religious vocations benefit dinner that raised more than $20,700 for vocations. The council distributed $4,500 to eight seminarians and one novice, and donated $16,275 to the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston office of vocations.

Father V. Qunion Council 10879 in Bonham dedicated a Project Moses Ten Commandments monument at its parish. One Knight funded the monument on behalf of the entire council.

Mary, Queen of Heaven Council 12253 in Malakoff held its annual golf tournament to benefit an area college scholarship fund. The event raised $5,000.

The Our Lady of Lourdes Church Round Table, sponsored by St. Jerome Council 13005 in Waco, purchased a Project Moses Ten Commandments monument for its parish. Originally worried about a time frame and lack of funding, the round table was paired with a benefactor that helped raise the $4,000 necessary for the purchase. The monument was also installed before Our Lady of Lourdes pastor, Father Robert Hearld, was transferred to another parish.
