Representatives from the Knights of Columbus Northern California Chapter present the VA Northern California Health Care System with 50 new wheelchairs on behalf of the Wheelchair Foundation. Members of St. Joseph Assembly in Milpitas hoist the U.S., California and POW flags at city hall to begin the city’s Memorial Day tribute to veterans. Knights perform this duty annually regardless of the weather.

Members of Father Felix Penna Assembly in Whittier present Cardinal Roger M. Mahony of Los Angeles with a Fourth Degree sword after he celebrated Mass at Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral June 8. Cardinal Mahony is a 45-year member of the Knights and belongs to Victor J. Mahony Council 2670 in North Hollywood. The council is named after Cardinal Mahony’s father.

Mike Rivera of Father Howard J. Lesch Assembly in Fort Walton Beach chats with Sophia Masone, Chris Rapp and Jessica Sauvageau — winners of the assembly’s annual essay contest. Knights fielded more than 100 entries for its contest, which is open to middle-school students in Okaloosa County. The three winners each received plaques and U.S. savings bonds.

Members of Cub Scout packs 301 and 384 fold a U.S. flag during a Flag Day retirement ceremony hosted by Oswego Council 7247 and Marquette Assembly in Aurora. With help from the Knights, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts respectfully retired more than 100 worn flags.

Gerald Worklewski and Russell Kreinbring of Father Solanus Assembly in Roseville accept a folded U.S. flag from an unnamed member of the Roseville Police Department during a flag retirement ceremony hosted by the assembly. Knights, veterans, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts burned worn flags in front of more than 100 attendees.

Brandon Enriquez of Cub Scout Pack 120 deposits a worn U.S. flag on the pyre while an honor guard from Msgr. Peter B’ O’Connor Assembly in North Arlington looks on. Queen of Peace Council 3428 sponsored the flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day June 14, which was also attended by Councilman James Ferriero and members of the North Arlington Fire Department.

Carlos Rodríguez and Charles Sacco of Cardinal Farley Assembly in Westchester County lead the Corpus Christi procession through Port Chester. Knights and parishioners walked from Corpus Christi Church to Our Lady of the Rosary Church, stopping along the way to pray the rosary and read the Gospel. The event culminated in a bilingual Mass.

Bishop William F. Murphy of Rockville Centre examines a statue of Christ surrounded by children along with sculptor and diocesan priest, Father Harold Buckley (center), and an honor guard from Cmdr. John J. Shea Assembly in Suffolk County East. Patchogue Council 725 donated $30,000 to St. Francis de Sales Church for the statue’s construction, which was commissioned to mark the parish’s 120th anniversary. Bishop Murphy is a member of John J. Williams Council 1308 in Roslindale.

Members of St. Gaspar del Bufalo Assembly in Minster participate in a Corpus Christi procession through the town of Russia. Knights provided an honor guard for the Corpus Christi Mass at St. Remy Church and for the following procession through the community.

An honor guard from Mary Magdalene Assembly in Humble looks on as Father Rafael Becerra and Grand Knight David Hickey of Father Angelo Moscota Council 11438 in Houston dedicate the new prayer garden at St. Leo the Great Church. The grotto and garden were funded and built by Council 11438.

Members of Father Michael J. Bader Assembly in Newport News stand with representatives from the U.S. Navy during a memorial service for the USS Scorpion. Knights provided an honor guard for the service, which honored the 99 Scorpion crewmen who died when the submarine sank in 1968.

Members of Richmond Assembly and James Cardinal Gibbons Assembly marched in the first annual Henrico County Memorial Day Parade.
