Members of Father Charles D. Brady Assembly in Vero Beach and St. Williams Assembly in Sebastian look on as Father Peter West blesses a pro-life flag display. Knights helped dedicate the display to observe the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

Members of Our Lady of Hope Assembly in Port Orange provided an honor guard when a statue of Our Lady of Fatima visited their parish. The statue was blessed by Pope Paul VI in 1967 and makes an ongoing pilgrimage around the world.

Coral Gables Council 3274 hosted an appreciation dinner for the Dade Metro Police Department. Knights treated the officers to dinner to thank them for their service to the community.

In 2008, members of Bishop Charles B. McLaughlin Council 7282 in Sun City Center donated food and time to the Our Lady of Guadalupe Food Pantry in Wimauma. Knights provided food for 6,144 families over the course of the year and volunteered more than 5,800 hours.

San Juan Bosco Council 10087 in Miami held a weeklong drive to benefit Father Ramiro de Jesus Avendaño of Santa Teresa del Niño Jesus Church in Nicaragua. Knights filled a 45-foot shipping container full of donated clothes, school supplies, building materials and electronics for the burgeoning parish.

Gary Hobart of St. Louis the Crusader Council 12929 in Tallahassee cooks pork butts for sale at St. Louis Church. Knights sold the barbecue pork to people who were hosting Super Bowl parties, with proceeds added to the council’s charitable fund.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Council 13047 in Port St. Lucie purchased new albs for the altar servers at its parish.

Members of Our Lady of Grace Council 13243 in Palm Bay stand with some of the cans they collected to recycle. Knights held a can drive to benefit the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Our Lady of Grace Council 13243 in Palm Bay manned the “American” booth at its parish heritage festival. Parishioners were invited to sample cuisine from countries around the world, and proceeds from the event were donated to the church. The council also donated a basket of goods to the “Irish” booth in honor of Knights’ founder, Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney.

Wilfred Rohling of Mother Teresa Assembly in Douglasville hands a K of C pro-life placard to an unnamed woman during the Atlanta March for Life Jan. 22. Knights served as ushers at the annual Mass for the unborn at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and later participated in the pro-life march and rally.

Fourth Degree Knights from the DeSoto Province have been involved with a wounded warrior program co-sponsored by the Military Order of the Purple Heart since 2006. Under the leadership of Vice Supreme Master Robert J. Singer, Knights raised $53,909 in 2008 to send wounded soldiers from Fort Bragg and Camp LeJeune home for the holidays, regardless of their rank, gender or religious affiliation. At the end of 2008, Singer received a certificate of appreciation from U.S. Army Gen. George W. Casey Jr.

Members of Father O’Byrne Council 3574 in Jacksonville volunteered at a Red Cross blood drive at their parish. Knights set up the donation area, checked in donors and aided with the screening process. The drive netted 44 pints of viable blood.

Father Albert J. Todd Council 12119 in Fuquay-Varina hosted a spaghetti dinner to benefit the St. Bernadette Respect Life Fund. More than 200 people attended the event, which raised approximately $1,130.

St. Maron Council 12640 in Fayetteville raised $1,200 during its annual fund drive for people with intellectual disabilities. The funds were donated to the Antonine Sisters in Youngstown, Ohio, who run a daycare for people with intellectual disabilities.

Cardinal Bernardin Council 12263 in Bluffton started off the New Year by donating $2,000 to Special Olympics. In 2008, Knights donated more than $3,000 to the organization and volunteered countless hours.

Bishop Denis J. O’Connell Council 12366 in Fort Mill hosted a charity dinner and theater show to benefit an area wounded warrior fund. The event raised $3,600 for the organization, which helps wounded veterans transition back into civilian life.

Five assemblies from in and around Alexandria marched in the annual George Washington Parade Feb. 16. Knights carried 27 U.S. flags as well as a military flag and the K of C flag.

Walter Pollard Council 5480 in Newport News chartered a bus to transport area parishioners to the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C.

Fort Belvoir Council 11170 organized a parish dinner in honor of all clergy and religious who support the military and the Fort Belvoir Catholic community. Special guests included Bishop Joseph W. Estabrook, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, and State Deputy Kelly J. Mortensen. At the event, Mortensen presented Bishop Estabrook with a check for $10,000 in support of vocations for the archdiocese.

Father Henry A. Huppert Council 10011 in Point Pleasant co-sponsored a spaghetti dinner with the local art league to benefit a family whose daughter has cancer. The event raised $3,000 to help offset the family’s medical expenses.
