Three councils from in and around Ottawa gathered for a council outing to a hockey game between the Ottawa Senators and the Boston Bruins.
Father Frederick J. McGinn Assembly in Richmond Hill provided an honor guard for a memorial Mass for Sister Carmelina Tarantino at St. Paschal Baylon Church and to stand witness to the first step on her path to sainthood. Acting with permission from the Vatican, the Archdiocese of Toronto launched an inquiry into the holy and compassionate life of Sister Tarantino, who died in 1992. Sister Tarantino's brother is also a member of the assembly.
Rev. Dan MacDonald Assembly in Trenton provided an honor guard for Bishop Donald Thériault of the Diocese for the Military Services, Canada, when he celebrated a confirmation Mass at Canadian Forces Base Trenton.
Archbishop Joseph L. Wilhelm Council 1008 in Belleville held its annual ice fishing derby on the Bay of Quinte. The event raised $5,000 to purchase a Nitronox® machine for Quinte Health Care.
Father Funcken Council 1504 in Kitchener hosted a Mass to pray for those affected by job loss and the economic downturn. Knights also provided an honor guard for the Mass, which was celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Gerard P. Bergie of Hamilton. Bishop Bergie is a member of St. Margaret Mary Council 9553 in Hamilton.
Holy Angels Council 11826 in Brighton organized a hockey competition for area young people. Boys and girls ages 7-10 were tested on their ability to make a penalty shot, and each attendee received a certificate of participation.
St. Rose of Lima Council 13244 in Scarborough hosted a charity bridge and euchre tournament at its parish. The event raised more than $2,100 to purchase tables for the parish hall and to benefit Habitat for Humanity and Rosalie Hall.
