Supreme Secretary Robert J. Lane made introductory remarks and led the Pledge of Allegiance at a rally on the National Mall that preceded the March for Life.
Laneled a delegation from the Supreme Council that included Deacon Kenneth N. Ryan, supreme treasurer, and Assistant Supreme Secretary Donald Kehoe.
Following are Lane's remarks:
It is my great honor to be here representing the Knights of Columbus, the worlds largest lay Catholic organization with more than 1.7 million members.
There is no cause to which Knights of Columbus are more committed than to our mission to end the national scourge of abortion and to build a Culture of Life in our great land.
Thousands of Knights and their families are here to March for Life, and they are joined in prayer and action by members across America and beyond.
As the organization that petitioned Congress to have the words under God added to the Pledge, I am greatly honored to lead us as we say together:
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. (Born and unborn.)

Assistant Supreme Secretary Donald Kehoe, Leanore Lane and Supreme Secretary Robert J. Lane.

Knights of Columbus "Defend Life" signs were in abundance at the march.
