Nearly 250 Polish Knights have joined the Order in 14 First Degrees conducted since January, 2006. The First Degrees have been conducted by ceremonials teams from Maximillian Kolbe Council 9612 in Mississaugua, Ont., Cardinal Wyszynski Council 9296  in Toronto and Our Lady of Czestochowa Council 9346 in Sterling Heights, Mich..

Six councils have been formed in Krakow, Ludzmierz, Lomianki, Lomza, Radom and Starachowice. The new councils have begun conducting fraternal buisness by electing officers, selecting council names, establishing regular meeting schedules and annual dues fees, and preparing for membership recruitment and program activities.

Lomianki, Krakow and Ludzmierz have begun preparing to form First Degree ceremonials teams targeting Summer/Fall 2006 for their certification.

Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson was enthusiastic about the developments in Poland.  “I couldn’t be more pleased with the progress in Poland,” he said. “The acceptance of the Order and the enthusiasm of our new Brother Knights indicates this is the proper time and place for expansion of the Knights of Columbus in Europe.”  He encouraged U.S. and Canadian Knights with relatives in the locations of the six new councils to urge their relatives and friends to consider joining these new councils in Poland. “This will be another great example of Columbianism and fraternity extending across the oceans and touching lives in an ever-expanding global environment.”
