How to Download and Listen to Knights of Columbus Podcasts

Introduction
The Knights of Columbus uses RSS (Really Simple Syndication) to make podcasts available on the Internet, free of charge, to interested listeners.

Podcast: an audio file distributed over the Internet.  Download it onto your computer and listen there, or transfer it to a portable music player, and listen to it later wherever you are.

The name comes from "iPod" and "broadcasting," but an iPod is not the only audio player that will play podcasts.

The document below walks you through the process of obtaining the software and using it to listen to our podcasts. If you have a broadband Internet connection (cable, DSL), the process of downloading, installing and using the program to subscribe to our podcast should take no more than 20-30 minutes.

Introduction to RSS
Using RSS (Really Simple Syndication) software you may freely download the latest podcasts from the Knights of Columbus to your computer. Then, you may listen to them, or copy them to CD or DVD for others to listen to. To do this, you need to have an RSS aggregator installed on your computer.  This program can subscribe to and download podcasts automatically.

You may choose to download and install any one of the free RSS aggregators, sometimes called “RSS readers,” on the Internet. Once you’ve subscribed to our podcast, most aggregators check automatically for new podcasts, so you’re always up to date.

Note: While there are many RSS aggregators, the Knights of Columbus podcast is customized for Apple’s free program, iTunes. These instructions tell you how to use iTunes to download and listen to our podcasts.

Using the free iTunes Podcast Aggregator
To use iTunes, first you must download the software and install it on your computer. After you have installed iTunes, use it to subscribe to the Knights of Columbus podcast.

Your aggregator may ask you for the Web address (url) for the podcast feed. Use http://www.kofc.org/eb/en/publications/feeds/podcast_news.xml for Knights of Columbus news podcasts. For Catholic Information Service podcasts, use http://www.kofc.org/eb/en/publications/feeds/cispodcast.xml.
