Support for Armed Forces

Resolution on Support for Armed Forces adopted by the 127th Supreme Convention on Aug. 6, 2009.

127th Supreme Convention

WHEREAS, the Knights of Columbus has a long history of support for our armed forces, beginning with the “KC Huts” established by United States and Canadian Knights for allied troops in World War I, and continuing most recently with the publication of hundreds of thousands of military prayerbooks in both United States and Canadian editions; and

WHEREAS, the Knights of Columbus now has active military councils and four war zone roundtables in Iraq and Afghanistan; and

 WHEREAS, the Knights of Columbus plays a very active role in the Veterans Affairs Voluntary Services program, with members donating more than 78,000 hours of service at Veterans Administration hospitals last year; and

WHEREAS, the men and women of the armed forces in each of our respective countries make significant personal sacrifices to ensure our safety and security in an often dangerous world; and

WHEREAS, many of these men and women have suffered serious injury or have made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their lives so that we can be free and secure; and

WHEREAS, hundreds of thousands of the armed forces personnel are now stationed in harm’s way in many parts of the world, especially the Middle East, where they face danger every day;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that we will continue to expand our programs of support for both active duty and retired members of the armed forces; and

FURTHER RESOLVED, that we offer our heartfelt thanks and prayerful support for all members of the armed forces and we pray that they may be granted success in their mission of bringing peace and freedom to troubled parts of the world, and we pray especially for their safe return.
