Rosary of Guadalupan Love and Universal Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe
Resolution on the Rosary of Guadalupan Love and Universal Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe adopted by the 128th Supreme Convention on Aug. 5, 2010.
WHEREAS, as part of the festivities celebrating the Bicentennial of Mexico’s National Independence, the Knights of Columbus, the Archdiocese of Mexico City and the Institute of Guadalupan Studies, have organized an event called the Universal Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, to take place on September 8, 2010; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the event is to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe as the “Shield and the Patroness of Our Liberty” and as the Mother of the Civilization of Love; and
WHEREAS, during this event on September 8, 2010, a special “Rosary of Guadalupan Love” will be prayed in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Marian heart of America, from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm Central Standard Time; and
WHEREAS, the “Rosary of Guadalupan Love” is a special prayer designed to connect the messages Our Lady of Guadalupe gave to St. Juan Diego with the seven sacraments of the Church and the Church as the sacrament of salvation; and
WHEREAS, the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a message that reflects the great commandment of our Lord to love our neighbors as ourselves (MT 22:39); and
WHEREAS, this message of love is a universal message for all continents and all peoples, a message of reconciliation, healing and unity; and
WHEREAS, the intention of the “Rosary of Guadalupan Love” is not only to celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe’s role in uniting the hemisphere but also her important role in building a Civilization of Love; and
WHEREAS, this event is to be celebrated worldwide, uniting in prayer the members of all Knights of Columbus councils and their families, and all dioceses of the universal Church throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, the worldwide appeal of our Lady of Guadalupe is reflected in her many titles, including the Patroness of all America, the Patroness of Mexico, the Patroness of the Philippines, Patroness of the Unborn, Star of the New World, Star of the New Evangelization and Mother of the Civilization of Love; and
WHEREAS, upon assuming office ten years ago, in October 2000, Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson dedicated his administration to Our Lady of Guadalupe, thus renewing devotion to her throughout the Order; and
WHEREAS, Pope Benedict XVI has reminded us that through the tender love of Our Lady of Guadalupe we can hear and respond to the words of Christ: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Mt 28:19).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that all Knights of Columbus and their families around the world will unite under the maternal intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe to pray the “Rosary of Guadalupan Love” on September 8, 2010; and
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the intention of the rosary on that day will be for Our Lady’s intercession with her son for unity and peace so that the new evangelization may bring about a flourishing of a Culture of Life among all continents and all peoples; and
FURTHER RESOLVED, that we pray for the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe to guide our councils in their charitable work and their efforts to build a Civilization of Love so that each of us can say I Am My Brother’s Keeper.
