Islands Council 10579 in Savannah, Georgia, solicited the help of parishioners of St. Peter the Apostle Church to collect baby and child care supplies for a U.S. military clinic serving civilians in Afghanistan.

Capt. Kim Phillips, a doctor assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division in Afghanistan, ran a medical clinic which helped Afghan babies and small children. Through a local contact, she had requested supplies.

When Grand Knight Kevin Cook and the members of Islands council were informed of the need, they reached out to parishioners for donations. The response included enough clothing, shoes, toys, stuffed animals, baby lotion, saran wrap, and other baby and child care items to fill more than 100 individual packages. Knights coordinated with a National Guard unit to ship the packages directly to Capt. Phillips in Afghanistan. Forty-two (21 percent) council members participated, donating 125 man hours.
