    Resolution honoring Supreme Secretary Emilio B. Moure (1956-2011) adopted by the 129th Supreme Convention on Aug. 4, 2011.

    129th Supreme Convention

    WHEREAS, Supreme Secretary Emilio Moure passed into eternal life on July 23, 2011, at the age of 54, following several months of heroically fighting cancer; and

    WHEREAS, Emilio Moure was born in Cuba and at the age of 11 came with his family to the United States, where he embraced freedom and the American way of life, while never forgetting his homeland; and

    WHEREAS, Emilio Moure joined the Knights of Columbus in January 1985, and was a member of James Cardinal McIntyre Council 6332 and Santiago de Compostela Assembly in California; and

    WHEREAS, Brother Moure served with great enthusiasm and energy in all elected offices of the California State Council, including State Deputy from 2006-2007; and

    WHEREAS, in 2006, Brother Moure was elected to the Board of Directors by the delegates to the 124th Supreme Convention in Orlando; and

    WHEREAS, less than one year later, in April 2007, Supreme Director Moure answered the Supreme Knight’s invitation to move from California to New Haven, Connecticut, to serve as Executive Vice President for Business Process Management, a position in which he distinguished himself as an innovator, modernizer and motivator; and

    WHEREAS, the Board of Directors appointed Brother Moure as Supreme Treasurer in October 2009 and then as Supreme Secretary in September 2010, positions to which he devoted himself completely; and

    WHEREAS, Brother Moure was instrumental in developing several of the Order’s newest initiatives, including the Order’s partnership with the Global Wheelchair Mission, which provides free wheelchairs to needy persons around the world; the 2009 Marian Congress on Our Lady of Guadalupe and Guadalupe Festival, both of which were held at the conclusion of the 127th Supreme Convention in Phoenix, Arizona, and were immensely successful; and the recovery efforts in Haiti following the devastating earthquake of January 2010; and

    WHEREAS, Brother Moure was the Supreme Council’s liaison to the Order’s councils in Cuba, was instrumental in revitalizing the Order there in time for the centennial of Columbianism in Cuba in 2009, and played an important role in the Order’s support for the newly constructed San Carlos y San Ambrosio National Seminary near Havana; and

    WHEREAS, Brother Moure was a model Catholic and Knight, living his faith with great vibrancy in his daily life at the workplace, in his home life, and beyond, also in bearing an eloquent witness to trust in Divine Providence as he coped with the illness that would eventually cause his death at a young age;

    NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council assembled in Denver, Colorado, on August 2-4, 2011, offers prayers of thanksgiving for the outstanding life and service of the late Supreme Secretary Emilio B. Moure, as well as prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul; and

    FURTHER RESOLVED, that we extend heartfelt sympathy to his family, especially to his widow, Rebeca Moure; and

    FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Fourth Degree chalice fund which endeavors to purchase chalices for newly ordained priests who studied at San Carlos y San Ambrosio Seminary, be henceforth known as the “Emilio B. Moure Chalice Fund”; and

    FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be included in the proceedings of this meeting and that a bound copy be prepared for presentation to Mrs. Moure.
