Supreme Knight Carl Anderson delivers his annual report on the Order and its charitable work during the 2011 Supreme Convention in Denver. During his report he announced four new initiatives for the Knights of Columbus: the formation of second responder disaster response teams; an outreach program to AIDs orphans in Africa; support for seminarians who will serve in the military as chaplains after they are ordained; and the establishment of a shrine dedicated to Pope John Paul II in Washington, D.C.   In a private audience with Pope Benedict XVI presented at the Vatican Dec. 7, 2011, Supreme Knight Carl Anderson presented a gift of $1.6 million for the pope for his personal charities and causes. The amount represented this year’s earnings from the Order’s Vicarius Christi Fund, a 30-year tradition which has provided $49.6 million for charities through the pope since the fund's inception.
