Calvary Council 8144 in South Portland sponsored a benefit dinner at St. John the Evangelist Church to benefit military families that need home heating assistance. The event — coupled with a raffle for a U.S. flag blanket — raised $2,200 to assist the families of active military personnel who need help paying their home energy bills.
Father Roger J. Bolduc Council 8414 in Grand Isle led a fundraising campaign to purchase a new coal-fired boiler for St. Gerard Church. With the parish facing a $65,000 shortfall in funding, the council decided to alleviate part of the church's financial burden by complementing its oil furnace with coal for use during the coldest parts of winter. Knights raised nearly $30,000 for the new coal boiler and volunteered an additional 300 hours to aid with the installation.
