Cardinal John Cody Assembly in Chicago provided an honor guard for the opening ceremony of the Hines Veterans Games at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital. Eighty-five veterans, many with disabilities, competed in the games.
Leo Council 716 in Carbon Cliff held a food drive April 21-22 that netted $1,664 in cash donations and approximately 190 pounds of food for the food pantry at St. Mary Church in Moline.
O'Fallon Council 4239 hosted its 13th annual golf classic to benefit organizations that work with people with intellectual disabilities. The event raised close to $15,000. The day following the tournament, Knights volunteered at the Special Olympics Spring Games at Southern Illinois University. Council members assisted athletes during track and field events.
Father Paul Kunkel Council 4739 in Byron hosted a scrap metal drive to benefit its parish youth group. Knights accepted donations for four hours, and the metal netted $1,000 after being sold to a scrap dealer.
George R. Kutterer Council 6165 in Columbia donated $30,000 toward the construction of Immaculate Conception Church, completing a total contribution of $110,000. Funds for the donation were generated through council-sponsored fish frys over the past six years, as well as from the sale of a council meeting facility many years ago.
Through multiple fundraisers, including a silent auction, Villa Park Council 8365 raised $5,000 for St. Alexander School.
