Knights of Columbus from three area K of C units strip shingles from the roof of the rectory at St. Thomas Church in Philo. More than 50 Knights from Illini Council 2782 at the University of Illinois in Champaign, Father John C. Hecht Council 13103 in Philo and Twin Cities Assembly worked together to replace the roof in just over four hours, donating tools, vehicles and, of course, manpower, to get the job done. Following completion of the roof, Knights gathered together for lunch.

Breese Council 2869 hosted a family potluck dinner Sept. 16 at Breese Northside Park. Those in attendance enjoyed an afternoon of food, fellowship and games.

St. Joseph the Worker Council 4483 in Arlington Heights hosted a Columbus Day/Fatima Mass at its hall Oct. 8. A Marian procession through the town followed the Mass.

Cardinal Bellarmine Council 4849 in Aurora hosted a Blue Mass at Holy Angels Church in honor of area first responders. Knights celebrated the contributions of local police, fire and emergency service personnel.

La Grange Council 6483 raised $10,000 during its annual fund drive for people with intellectual disabilities.

St. John the Baptist Council 9167 in Johnsburg raffled a Harley Davidson motorcycle to raise more than $22,000 to help replace the roof at St. John the Baptist Church.

Bishop Fulton J. Sheen Council 10858 in Orland Park hosted its annual fishing outing and barbecue for area adults and children with intellectual disabilities. Participants enjoyed a day of fishing, coupled with lunch, ice cream and gifts.

Father Peter Delo Council 11223 in Granville rented a billboard in praise of Bishop Daniel R. Jenky's support of religious liberty initiatives.

St. Wendelin Council 12841 in Shannon sponsored a Blue Mass at its parish in honor of area first responders. Msgr. Charles F. Conley Assembly in Galena provided an honor guard for the event.

St. Louis de Montfort Council 14553 in Oak Lawn used the Find a Council feature on the Order's website to locate a K of C council in Cancun, Mexico, when council member Hank Montoya and his family were vacationing there. During the trip, Montoya met with members of San Patricio Council 14992 on behalf of his council to exchange ideas and resources, and to present a donation of approximately 1,260 Mexican Pesos. Council 14992 then passed these funds on to a local orphanage.

Members of Miraculous Medal Council 11188 in Columbus haul a load of new shingles onto the roof of a garage at the Church of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. Knights, along with Squires from Miraculous Medal Council 4624, repaired the garage's leaky roof in the course of a single day. Proceeds from a benefit dinner prior to the project were used to purchase building materials.

St. Thomas Council 605 in Beloit painted the home of council member Stan Van Hoose after he was cited by the city for having a blighted property. Knights organized a painting crew to assist Van Hoose, who is also the council's oldest living member and a Pearl Harbor survivor.

Msgr. Bernard Doyle Council 1080 in Darlington helped install new shingles on the roof of the sacristy at Holy Rosary Church. Knights also helped with fall cleaning at the parish cemetery.
