Knights from California District #36 participated in the East Bay Stand Down event, which offered meals and other services to homeless or needy veterans. Knights served a spaghetti dinner to more than 900 veterans, staff and volunteers.
The Knights of Columbus Oakland Chapter provided logistical support for the National Conference of Diocesan Vocations Directors, held Sept. 23-28. Knights set up a chapel in the convention hotel for daily Mass, and the altar itself was built by a Knight. Other Knights transported clergy and lay vocation promoters from the airport to the convention, while the California State Vocations Team was present throughout the conference to distribute materials.
Palm Springs Council 3583 and Fermin Lasuen Assembly in Indio works with the Palm Springs USO to co-sponsor barbecues for area Marines who are going on or returning from leave. Knights provide food for the events, along with tables and pop-up pavilions.
Bishop Charles Francis Buddy Council 6031 in Poway presented scholarships to 12 area students.
St. Elizabeth Seton Council 9022 in Carlsbad hosted an Oktoberfest celebration at its council hall Oct. 13. More than 200 guests enjoyed German beer, food and music. The event raised $1,600 for the council's charitable fund.
Epiphany Council 11033 in San Francisco donated a portable altar to Church of the Epiphany. Council member Frank Carzon designed the altar and contracted a friend to build it with assistance from fellow Knights.
