Bishop O'Sullivan of Foley Council 2736 in Elberta constructed an outdoor play-therapy area for the "High Hopes for Autism" classroom at St. Benedict School. The council donated $400 to help cover the costs of materials and provided labor to construct an enclosed deck and sandbox for preschool and elementary-age children with autism. Knights also helped renovate restrooms at the facility and installed new blinds in a classroom.

St. Ann's Council 3986 and Father William V. Higgins Assembly, both in Decatur, donated $200 to the Staff Sgt. Chris Walker Fund. Staff Sgt. Walker was injured April 24 while serving in Afghanistan, resulting in the loss of his left leg, the loss of his right arm below the elbow and the loss of his left arm above the elbow. The funds will help with Walker's ongoing recovery and adjustment to civilian life.

St. Thomas the Apostle Council 13174 in Chickasaw came to the aid of a single mother who needed assistance with projects around her home. Knights removed several items from the basement of the home that were damaged by flooding. The council also cleaned the yard, removing overgrown trees and brush.

Hot Springs Council 6419 and Daniel Patrick Sullivan Council 10208 in Hot Springs Village co-hosted a golf tournament that raised $5,000 for St. John School.

Nine K of C councils from Northern Kentucky co-hosted a golf outing at the Twin Oaks Golf and Plantation Club in Covington that raised $7,500 for Catholic Charities' Lifeline Fund, which assists pregnant mothers in need.

Msgr. Bouchet Assembly and Archbishop John A. Floersh Assembly, both in Louisville, participated in a Mass at St. Martin of Tours Church in which the remains of two saints, St. Magnus and St. Bonosa, were reinterred. St. Martin Church has been home to the full skeletal remains of these two 3rd-century martyrs since 1901. Their resting places — underneath the two side altars in the front of the church — were in need of repair, and the relics needed to be moved to complete that work. Their reinterrment was celebrated with a standing-room-only High Mass.

Msgr. Newman Council 4665 and Msgr. William McKune Council 14471, both in Louisville, co-hosted the annual Knights of Columbus Motorcycle Ride for Wednesday's Child. Nearly 90 riders participated in the event, which raised $1,854. Wednesday's Child helps facilitate the adoption of children in difficult circumstances or with disabilities.

Jesuit Father Harry W. Tompson Assembly in Mandeville presented a traveling Mass kit — including a chalice, paten and ciborium — to Msgr. Wildor Pierre of St. Benoit Dessoudes Parish in Haiti.

Msgr. Peter M.H. Wynhoven Council 3091 in Westwego sponsored an event to celebrate the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Knights and parishioners from Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church prayed and sang songs to Mary before releasing birthday balloons and enjoying snacks. The council also provided support at its parish's family day celebration.

Christ the King Council 15064 at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge partnered with a local high school to collect books for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. Knights and students collected more than 4,000 books for area schools whose libraries were scarce or whose teachers had no books in their classrooms. Knights also delivered books to local preschools and held reading sessions with children.

Father Patrick McAlpine Council 9094 and James D. Hart Council 9673, both in Biloxi, teamed up to hold their annual fund drive for people with intellectual disabilities. The drive netted a little under $1,000 for Special Olympics.

The 33rd Annual Knights of Columbus Softball Tournament was held in Hutchinson, Kan., during Labor Day weekend. The team from Hallettsville, Texas, won the open division, while the team from Houston won the Masters Division. Next year's tournament will be held over Labor Day weekend in Columbia, Mo.

Martin Troncoso II of Good Shepherd Council 6358 in Schertz paints the outside of a new home at Habitat for Humanity project in San Antonio. Knights assisted with all aspects of building the home, their 14th in recent years.

St. Helena Council 7965 in San Antonio donated $4,000 from its bingo fund to the Oblates of Mary Immaculate to assist in the religious order's vocations work. The council also donated $1,000 to the Dominican Missionaries for repairs to their residence in Castle Hills.

Holy Name and St. Patrick's Council 8247 in Houston provided water and snow cones to participants in the YMCA youth soccer kick-off.

St. Edward Council 10524 in Athens hosted its annual spaghetti dinner with more than 100 people in attendance. Proceeds from the event were added to the council's charitable fund to assist area non-profit agencies.

Lumen Christi Council 13520 in Dallas held a commemorative rosary in honor of the families and victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Jerry Ramirez of St. Vincent de Paul Council 13927 in Austin calls back for more food while serving lunch to construction workers at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Knights served lunch to the construction crew that is building the new church, which will be dedicated in December.
