Miami Council 1726 hosted its annual respect life dinner to ensure the continued employment of a sonogram technician to operate the sonogram machine at the Sunset Respect Life Pregnancy Center. Through tickets sales for the dinner — along with pre- and post-event donations, corporate and private sponsorships and a silent auction — the event raised $16,000. The council also hosted a fraternal lasagna dinner to celebrate the council's 100th anniversary and the 100th birthday of member John Marinello. Proceeds from the dinner will be used to help rebuild Notre Dame Cathedral in Haiti. Since learning about plans to rebuild the church, the council has raised $5,000 in support of the effort.

St. Paul Council 1895 in Daytona Beach, Prince of Peace Council 8791 in Ormond Beach and Archbishop Michael J. Curley Assembly donated $2,000 in support of an orphanage in Uganda for children whose parents have died from AIDS-related illnesses. Knights also donated a traveling Mass kit and Roman Missal to Father Charles Nabwana, who founded the orphanage.

Santa Maria Council 4999 in West Palm Beach donated $5,000 to St. Clare School to assist with scholarships for low-income students.

St. Joseph Council 7408 in Palm Bay sponsored its second annual Gene Calagy Fundraiser to support a local young boy undergoing treatment at the Space Coast Early Intervention Center, a preschool learning center for children with disabilities. All the proceeds from the fundraiser were applied to the boy's tuition.

Our Lady of Lourdes Council 9924 in Venice painted the exterior of the rectory at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Moore Haven. Since the church is about 100 miles away from Venice, Knights had to make several trips to complete the job.

San Marcelino Champagnat Council 10055 and Marcelino Champagnat Circle 3877, both in Miami, hosted a pro-life march along Highway U.S. 1 in Miami on Respect Life Sunday, Oct. 7. Other youth organizations joined the Knights and Squires in their pro-life witness.

Knights teamed with the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida for a helmet drive titled "Use Your Helmet, Not Your Head," which distributed helmets to 200 people ranging from toddlers to adults.

Christ Our Redeemer Council 13527 in Niceville has supported the Niceville Public Library's "Constitution Week" initiative for the past seven years. Knights donated reference materials to the library that are related to patriotism and that are suitable for both children and adults. The initiative aims to highlight books and films that deal with the Constitution, the Founding Fathers, the early days of the country and past presidents.

Blessed John XXIII Council 14390 in Miramar celebrated a remembrance Mass at its parish to commemorate the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and to honor local first responders. Archbishop Ambrose De Paoli Assembly in Weston provided an honor guard for the event.

Our Lady of La Salette Council 8376 in Marietta organized an outdoor "Dinner and a Movie" event to raise funds for two military-themed organizations. Knights cooked for those in attendance before presenting a family-friendly movie. The event raised more than $3,200 to purchase wheelchairs for veterans and provide support to seminarians who are studying to become military chaplains. The council also provided support to a youth group that was charged with building a new outdoor seating area at St. Ann Church. Knights taught the young people the skills they needed to complete the project and supervised the construction.

Father Bernardine Golden Council 12921 in Wallace hosted its annual Bill Lord Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit children with intellectual disabilities. The event raised more than $6,000 to provide grants to schools that support children with special needs.

Members of San Juan Bautista Council 1543 in San Juan participate in a pro-life march in Old San Juan. The goal of the two-mile march, which featured participants from several area churches and organizations, was to bring awareness to pro-life and pro-family issues. An estimated 4,000 people took part. The council also served breakfast to students at an area school.

Joseph Miguel Ros Council 3067 in Georgetown and Precious Blood of Christ Council 11028 in Pawley's Island, along with Fourth Degree Knights in regalia from Father Philip Grant Assembly, participated in National Life Chain Day Oct. 7. More than 130 residents of Georgetown County joined fellow pro-life advocates across the country to offer silent prayer, meditation and witness to the pro-life cause.

The team "Samson's Strongmen," comprised of members of Our Lady of Hope Council 12791 in Potomac Falls, strains to pull a FedEx plane 12 feet during the annual Plane Pull at Dulles International Airport.
