District Deputy Mark Petty of Missouri District #41 provided support for a large Catholic family that gathered in the St. Louis area to mourn the loss of Adam Muffler, a U.S. Marine who took his own life after struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder. Muffler's family contacted Petty to assist with finding a venue to accommodate more than 120 mourners following the funeral, which Petty was able to do with the assistance of a local church in only two days.
St. Louis Council 453 held a pro-life baby bottle drive during the month of November that raised more than $3,000. The funds will be used to purchase an ultrasound machine for a local pregnancy resource center.
During November, St. Bridget, Sons of Mercy Council 13113 in Pleasant Hill sponsored special collections at all weekend Masses at its parish to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy. The collections took in $460, which the council matched for a total contribution of $920. A young parishioner, Catie Davis, also had a birthday during the month and, in lieu of gifts, asked her friends to donate to the fund. Davis raised an additional $173.
St. Clement of Rome Council 13604 in Des Peres hosted a pancake breakfast to raise funds to send care packages to U.S. troops stationed overseas. Using the net profits from the breakfast, Knights assembled 13 care packages at their monthly meeting.
