Gen. Philip H. Sheridan Assembly in Bridgeport sponsored a Mass commemorating the Order’s 125th anniversary. Bridgeport Mayor John M. Fabrizi attended the event to deliver a city-issued proclamation marking the anniversary.

Isabella Council 15 in Southington donated $600 to Carolyn’s Place, a pregnancy resource center in Waterbury. Knights also helped move Carolyn’s Place into its new building and plan to perform renovation work at the organization’s new home.

Ojeda Council 33 in Naugatuck donated more than $1,300 to Connecticut Special Olympics. Money for the donation was raised during the council’s annual fund drive for people with intellectual disabilities.

Ojeda Council 33 in Naugatuck teamed with Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan to donate more than $4,300 to St. Francis of Assisi School. The funds were used to purchased new science tables and laboratory equipment.

Rev. Gerald T. Corrigan Council 3544 in Plainville donated the proceeds from its annual fund drive for people with intellectual disabilities to ARC of Plainville.

Members of Rev. Gerald T. Corrigan Council 3544 in Plainville display a fence they built at Our Lady of Mercy Church. The request for the fence came from the late Father Philip J. Cascia, who died last Jan. 7 after battling Burkitt’s Lymphoma.

Gary Thomas, Joe Palmisano and Art Sheehan, all members of Blessed Pope John XXIII Council 5987 in Monroe, display some of the chocolates that Council 5987 purchased for wounded veterans. The council conducted its annual "Chocolates for Soldiers" campaign, raising $3,400 to purchase treats for wounded soldiers recovering at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the Bethesda Naval Hospital. The 300 boxes of chocolate were distributed by Red Cross personnel.

Father John Donnelly and Paul Iadarola of the St. Vincent de Paul Mission in Waterbury and George Hughes of Father James F. O’Dea Council 13459 in Prospect display a portrait of the late Father Philip J. Cascia during a benefit dinner held in Father Cascia’s honor. More than 320 people attended the council-sponsored event, which raised money for the St. Vincent de Paul Mission and for Intersport USA, an international exchange program that brings athletes together from the United States, Brazil, China, Vietnam, Cuba and Russia.

A retreat for blind Catholics from Connecticut was held on May 19, but was in danger of being cancelled due to a lack of transportation. Members of St. Brigid Council 14216 in West Hartford stepped in, mustering volunteer drivers from among the council and from other local civic groups. The retreat went on as scheduled and was the first in several years to minister to blind Catholics from the area.

Father Druillette Council 2537 in Old Town sponsored a May crowning at Holy Family Church. Parishioners were invited to place a rose at the feet of Mary’s statue after Mass. Father Druillette Assembly provided an honor guard.

Holy Cross Council 12652 in Lewiston and the Walton School PTO co-sponsored a spaghetti dinner to benefit Jillian Dumais, a one-year-old girl who has stomach cancer. The event raised more than $12,000 for the Dumais family to help with medical bills.
