March for Life

The annual March for Life, held on or around January 22 in Washington, D.C., commemorates the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s infamous Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion on Jan. 22, 1973. This year, the March for Life will be held on Friday, January 27, with the theme, “The Power of One!” For more information about the March for Life, youth conference, rally, Rose Dinner, and related events, visit www.marchforlife.org or call 202-234-3300.

All Knights and their families, particularly those in the greater Washington, D.C., area and nearby states, are urged to join the march. Councils planning bus trips to Washington should book their charters early. Knights should carry council banners and K of C posters, wear jackets with the K of C emblem, and walk together to show the Order’s support for the right to life.

Knights who cannot go to Washington can participate in local or state pro-life demonstrations. State pro-life chaircouples will have information on local activities sponsored or supported by Knights in their jurisdictions.

For those on the West Coast, Culture of Life events will be held in three major California cities on Saturday, January 21. In addition to the large Walk for Life West Coast held in San Francisco (www.walkforlifewc.com), pro-life events will be held in Los Angeles (www.onelifela.org) and San Diego (www.sandiegowalkforlife.net). Other Marches and Walks for Life are scheduled in cities and towns throughout the country in January.

Knights are urged to schedule prayer services for unborn children at government monuments or participate in other appropriate activities. Invite Squires’ circles, ladies’ auxiliaries, parish pro-life groups and similar organizations to attend or co-sponsor planned activities.

In the Philippines, Knights will have marches for life in major cities during the month of March. Please visit www.kofc.org.ph for more information. Canadian Knights are encouraged to participate in the National March for Life in Ottawa on Thursday, May 11, 2017 or in provincial marches on or around that date. For more information, see www.campaignlifecoalition.com.

To order “Choose Life” signs, call 203-752-4403 or send an email to william.obrien@kofc.org with your name, council number, address, telephone number, and the exact number of signs needed in English, French or Spanish.
