During the final press conference of the International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) in Quebec City June 21, Cardinal Marc Ouellet of Quebec thanked the Knights of Columbus for its support.

“The Knights of Columbus have been working very hard for more than a year to prepare and support the IEC as volunteers,” Cardinal Ouellet said. Hundreds of Quebec area Knights have served as drivers, on security detail and in honor guards for liturgical celebrations during the event, which concludes June 22. The Knights donated more than $1 million to the congress, and Canadian Knights transported the congress’ symbolic Ark of the New Covenant throughout the country in the months prior to this week’s event.

Cardinal Ouellet said he believed the spirit of the IEC will be sustained until August, when the Order holds its 126th annual Supreme Convention in Quebec. “The Knights’ presence for their general meeting in August will be enhanced by the eucharistic congress,” he said.
