Papal Message for the Dedication of the Saint John Paul II National Shrine

PAPAL MESSAGE FOR THE DEDICATION
OF THE
SAINT JOHN PAUL II NATIONAL SHRINE

The Holy Father sends cordial greetings to all assembled for the dedication of the new Saint John Paul II National Shrine in Washington, together with the assurance of his closeness in prayer on this happy occasion. He is confident that the Shrine will open wide its doors to the countless members of the faithful from the United States and abroad who remember Saint John Paul with gratitude and affection, and who trustingly seek his intercession and assistance. The Holy Father likewise trusts that the Shrine will serve to make better known the great Pope’s legacy of magisterial teaching, his enduring summons to holiness and an evangelical zeal, and his uncompromising defense of freedom, truth and solidarity grounded in the inviolable dignity of the human person, created in God’s image and redeemed by his infinite mercy in Christ. With these sentiments, His Holiness commends all present to the loving intercession of Mary, Mother of the Church, and entrusts the apostolate of the National Shrine to the heavenly patronage of Saint John Paul II. As a pledge of Easter joy and peace in the Lord, he cordially imparts his Apostolic Blessing.
