Statement of the Supreme Knight on the Death of Cardinal Glemp

The 1.8 million members of Knights of Columbus and I join Catholics in Poland and throughout the world in mourning the death of Cardinal Jozef Glemp. Cardinal Glemp was an important force in helping to bring freedom to Poland in the 1980s. He knew the Knights of Columbus well from his many trips to the United States and strongly encouraged our expansion into Poland. In meeting with him, I found his advice both on our work in Poland and on the general situation there to be invaluable. He will be fondly remembered and our prayers are with him and the people of Poland at this time.
