Disaster Alert - Illinois
The Illinois Department of Insurance has issued Bulletin 2015-13 in response to recent severe flooding that has impacted many policyholders in the counties of Calhoun, Jackson, Jersey, Madison, Monroe, Randolph, St. Clair, Alexander, Cass, Christian, Clinton, Cumberland, Douglas, Iroquois, Lawrence, Marion, Menard, Morgan, Moultrie, Pike, Richland, Sangamon and Vermilion. Per the request of the Department of Insurance, Knights of Columbus has taken the following actions:
Instituted a moratorium on the cancellation/non renewal of policies for non-payment of premiums for policyholders. We will not cancel, non-renew, or terminate coverage while this Bulletin is in effect, however, nothing in the moratorium extension waives any requirement to pay premiums or remit consideration which may be due on any policy or contract during that period of time. This “premium deferral” is only an extension of the grace period in which to pay premiums.
- Instituted an extension of any and all policy provisions or other requirements that impose a time limit for an insured or claimant to perform any act including the submission of a claim or proof of loss, reporting of information, submission of bills or payment of funds. Such extension shall be for a minimum of 60 days from the last date allowed or required under the terms of the policy or required by the Knights of Columbus.
