Needy Children Receive New Winter Coats in New Haven

The 2010-2011 Knights of Columbus “Coats for Kids” program is in full swing in cold weather cities throughout the United States and Canada. Coats have already been distributed to needy children in Hartford and New Haven, Connecticut as well as Baltimore, Maryland; Washington D.C., Denver, Colorado; Lansing and Pontiac, Michigan; Dubuque, Iowa and Ottawa, Ontario. Altogether, Knights of Columbus will distribute more than 12,000 coats this winter.

This event marks the third year that the “Coats for Kids” initiative of the Knights of Columbus has been giving new winter coats to children in need. Additional distributions are planned during the coming weeks in Bridgeport and Waterbury, Connecticut; Paterson and Newark, New Jersey; Edmonton, Alberta, Providence, Rhode Island; St. Louis, Missouri; Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Salt Lake City, Utah; Boise, Idaho; Chicago, Illinois; Worcester, Massachusetts, Montreal and Québec City, Québec and as far south as El Paso, Texas.

The “Coats for Kids” program is part of the Knights’ Help a Child in Need campaign, which began in 2006 with a nationwide appeal during the Christmas season for donations to charities that support the needs of children. The initiative began as an effort to help families with children living in colder climates who have been severely impacted by the sharp and sudden downturn in the economy.
