Father McGivney and Bishop Daily Vocations Scholarships

How to Apply

Each February, the Knights of Columbus mails applications for Father McGivney and Bishop Daily vocations scholarships to rectors of major seminaries and diocesan vocations directors.

Seminarians are advised to obtain the applications from those sources. Completed applications should be returned by June 1 to the:

Two vocations scholarship programs, the Father Michael J. McGivney Vocations Scholarships Fund and Bishop Thomas V. Daily Vocations Scholarships Fund provide scholarships to students in the first four years of theology pursuing a vocation to the priesthood.

For the 2012-13 academic year, 34 new Father McGivney scholarships were awarded to 29 U.S. and five Canadian seminarians enrolled in 25 major schools of theology.

The seminarians are studying for 26 U.S. dioceses, four Canadian dioceses and three religious institutes. In addition to the new scholarships, 53 were renewed.

For the 2012-13 academic year, Bishop Daily vocations scholarships went to seven U.S. and one Canadian seminarians enrolled in seven major schools of theology.

The seminarians are studying for five U.S. dioceses, one Canadian dioceses and two religious institutes.

In addition to the new scholarships, 17 were renewed.






Father Michael J. McGivney Vocations Scholarships

Father Michael J. McGivney

Father Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882.

The Father McGivney scholarships are awarded on the basis of need and applicants must provide information to establish financial need.

Each grant of $2,500 for tuition, room and board is renewable up to a maximum of four years upon evidence of continued enrollment and eligibility. The scholarship is not in effect during any year of pastoral internship.

An applicant having appropriate ecclesiastical approval, accepted at a major seminary and studying for a diocese or religious institute in the United States, its territories, or Canada is eligible. Preference is given, but is not limited to, applicants who are members of the Knights of Columbus or who are the sons of Knights.


Bishop Thomas V. Daily Vocations Scholarships

Bishop Thomas V. Daily was supreme chaplain from 1987-2005.

Bishop Daily scholarships are merit based and applicants must include a copy of their most recent transcript and two letters of recommendation.

Each grant of $2,500 for tuition, room and board is renewable up to a maximum of four years upon evidence of continued enrollment and eligibility. The scholarship is not in effect during any year of pastoral internship.

An applicant having appropriate ecclesiastical approval, accepted at a major seminary and studying for a diocese or religious institute in the United States, its territories, or Canada is eligible.
