NEW CIS BOOKLETS

Understanding Stem Cell Research: Controversy and Promise

By Dominican Father Nicanor Austriaco (PhD in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology), this booklet presents the controversial yet optimistic topic of stem cell research. Outlining the reasons for hope, as well as the grave moral issues, Father Austriaco explains why the Church is not opposed to all forms of stem cell research but is opposed to human embryonic stem cell research because it "attacks and undermines the dignity of the human person…."

The Child: Begotten Not Manmade

By Kathleen Curran Sweeney (Masters in Theology from John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family), this booklet provides a basic overview of the process of in vitro fertilization and the grave moral issues that surround the reproductive technologies in use today.  Sweeney argues that the process of IVF not only objectifies the human life it manipulates, but also dilutes the fundamental vocation of parenthood.
