While studying in college, students are often separated from their immediate family. This can be especially tough on birthdays, during holidays and during stressful times such as midterms and finals.
Wishing to remind students on campus of their family’s support, this council distributes care packages and notes to students during finals week. Earlier in the semester, the council reaches out to parents who can purchase a coffee mug filled with candy, supplies and a personal note to their son or daughter. These “study mugs” are then distributed to students at the start of finals week. This past year, the council raised $3,000 from this fundraiser and decided to give this money back to students. The council purchased New Testament bibles for all incoming freshmen. Additionally, the council included a bookmark with helpful Bible verses for students and information on the council’s activities and programs.
In recognition of this Study Mug Fundraiser, this year’s Family Activity Award went to Council 4708 at Benedictine College.
