Columbia feature articles run between 700 and 1,500 words, and focus on topics of interest to Catholics: current events, social trends, family life and parenting, social problems, health and nutrition, finances, Catholic practice and teaching as they relate to the world, and Church programs, institutions and personalities. Seasonal items require at least a six-month lead time. Payment is made upon acceptance and ranges in price depending on the quality of manuscript and the nature of assignment.
Columbia accepts original features for first-time serial rights and reserves the right to reproduce the work in any K of C publication and/or in an online edition.
We do not accept multiple submissions, simultaneous submissions or reprints. We do not accept poetry or fiction. We do not accept cartoons.
Few unsolicited manuscripts are accepted, and written/e-mailed inquiries are preferred. We follow Associated Press (AP) style, and your manuscript should be formatted as such. Submissions may be sent via post or e-mail. Manuscripts that are mailed and rejected will be returned upon request and only if accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) with sufficient postage. No binding commitments are made in response to inquiries. Firm commitments are made only upon receipt of the finished submission.
