During this unprecedented time, many people are getting creative with technology — we’re using technology to connect with friends, acquaintances, business partners and clients. And we’re treasuring these relationships more than we ever have before, knowing that we can’t see these people face to face.
As a Knights of Columbus field agent, I use technology all the time. Here are some tips of things I’ve found helpful:
For personal use, there are great apps and software that allow video chat with family and friends, such as Skype, Zoom, Facetime, Facebook and Instagram. This is amazing because it allows you to meet people where they are most comfortable.
My family has adopted ways of seeing each other through Amazon Echo Show or Facetime on our iPads. I’m talking to relatives more and more, and seeing them more as well. If you have a computer or a smart phone, you can find a way to communicate with your family and friends.
For business, Skype Business is a great platform to use when conducting business.
We Knights of Columbus Insurance agents use Skype Business as our video conferencing platform. It allows us to see our clients’ faces while talking with them about their financial needs. Skype also allows us to share content with our clients on the computer screen so we can follow along and truly be on the “same page.”
Councils here in Nebraska are even holding their monthly council meetings over Skype. Officers are saying that they are seeing members engaged at meetings via video conference that they wouldn’t normally see at face-to-face council meetings.
Technology has the ability to make us better family members, business owners, mentors and agents. Let’s take advantage of technology, so that when we come out of this, we can be better because of it.
Let’s not just survive through quarantine, let’s thrive through quarantine.
