Resolution 349 - Welcoming the Republic of Korea as a Territorial Jurisdiction of the Knights of Columbus
WHEREAS, the Catholic Church in the Republic of Korea is one of the fastest growing Churches in the world with more than 5.8 million Catholics accounting for 11 percent of the country’s population; and
WHEREAS, during his report at the 132nd Supreme Convention held in Orlando, in 2014, the Supreme Knight announced the expansion of the Order into the Republic of Korea with the establishment of St. Andrew Kim Taegon Council 16000, the first council in the Republic of Korea not located on a U.S. military base; and
WHEREAS, over the past four years membership in the Republic of Korea has continued to expand, leading the Board of Directors to designate the Republic of Korea as a territory of the Knights of Columbus pursuant to Section 14 of the Constitution and Laws.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we welcome the Knights of Columbus and the families of the Catholic Church in the Republic of Korea and join with them in fraternal communion to answer the charge of Pope Francis made during his 2014 apostolic journey to Korea to “be a generous force for spiritual renewal at every level of society.”
