Fourth Degree Knights process into the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe during the site's designation as a minor basilica. More than 60 Knights provided an honor guard for the event, which also saw participation by State Deputy Douglas J. Murray. The tintinnabulum and ombrellino used at the Mass were on loan from the Basilica of St. Paul the Apostle in Daytona Beach. Tara Council 6352 and Father Emmeran Bliemel Assembly, both in Jonesboro, donated a human fetus model to the St. Philip Benizi Respect Life Ministry. The model will be used to educate parishioners on fetus development.

Bishop Griffin Assembly in Springfield and Bishop Joseph A. McNicholas Assembly in Gillespie provided an honor guard for a Mass celebrating the 55th ordination anniversary of Father August J. Sperl. The Mass was followed by a parish-wide dinner party in Father Sperl's honor.

Anthony Wayne Assembly in Fort Wayne provided an honor guard for Father Robert Traub, who celebrated his 70th ordination anniversary and is considered one of the oldest priests in the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend.

Pope John Paul II Assembly in Des Moines provided an honor guard for the ordination Mass of Ken Halbur Jr. and George Komo. Father Dan Clarke Council 13109 in Altoona provided financial support to both men while they were studying for the priesthood.

Members of Father Andrew White Assembly in Ridge cleaned the assembly's adopted stretch of Maryland Rt. 5 as part of the "Adopt-A-Highway" program. Knights removed trash and debris from a 1.3-mile area.

Lloyd Kelso, Glenn McClary and George Ramsey flash their gold medals after returning from the 2009 National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Spokane, Wash. The nine K of C councils that comprise Bishop McGuinness Assembly in Raleigh donated funds to help send the athletes to partake in the annual competition.

Bishop Flaget Assembly in Covington, Ky., and St. Isaac Jogues Assembly in Cincinnati participated in a massive pro-life march that began in Newport, Ky., and crossed the Purple People Bridge into Ohio. The event, which was organized by right-to-life organizations in both states, saw hundreds of participants and was emceed by Brian Patrick, a host for the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN).

Assemblies from throughout Fourth Degree District #3 collected four memorial chalices for Father John L. Kakinda, a priest from Sacred Heart Seminary in Mubende, Africa. Father Kakinda requested the chalices after attending the district's installation of officers, and Knights were more than happy to oblige.

St. Bede The Venerable Council 13755 in Mentor and Boy Scout Troop 383 collected $2,000 to install a 25-foot flagpole at their parish. Cardinal Newman Assembly in Lake & Geauga provided an honor guard for the pole's dedication ceremony.

A bagpiper leads an honor guard from Archbishop J. L. Wilhelm Assembly in Smiths Falls at the opening of a Special Olympics soccer tournament, Aug. 15. Knights from Ontario District #30 raised nearly $5,000 to sponsor the event, including the cost of jerseys for both teams.

Bishop J. W. Shanahan Assembly in Harrisburg hosted its annual dinner and baseball outing for Cumberland County ARC. Knights treated 33 people with intellectual disabilities to dinner and to a minor-league baseball game.

Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Assembly in Stowe provided an honor guard for the retirement of Father Robert C. Quinn. Father Quinn served for 23 years as the pastor of St. Columbkill Church and is a member of Father Bally Council 1192 in Pottstown.

Bishop Adolph A. Marx Assembly in Brownsville provided an honor guard for a Mass celebrating the 150th anniversary of Immaculate Conception Cathedral. Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, who is a member of Father Vincent Joseph Guinan Council 13940 at the University of St. Thomas, celebrated the Mass along with Bishop Raymondo D. Peña of Brownsville, who belongs to El Paso Council 638.

Members of Father Dunn Assembly in Amarillo provided an honor guard for the annual Las Fiestas Parade held July 18 in their community.

St. Elizabeth Bayley Seton Assembly in Sterling traveled to the Martinsburg VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.V., July 25, to treat patients there to a "Christmas in July" party. Knights hosted several games of bingo and distributed gifts to all veterans in attendance.
