On Sunday, August 5th, the Knights of Columbus, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and the Instituto Superior de Estudios Guadalpanos will present the Guadalupe Celebration at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. With a capacity crowd of 75,000 expected, the Celebration will be the biggest Guadalupe event in the Archdiocese in more than a generation.
On Monday, the Archdiocese and the Knights of Columbus previewed the event for the media. The Celebration will feature a recitation of the rosary, several keynote speakers, world-class performances, and much more. One of the features of Sunday’s event will be the relic of St. Juan Diego’s tilma. Housed in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles, it is the only known relic of the tilma in the United States. The relic was removed from its chapel in preparation for Sunday’s event. After Sunday, the chapel will be renovated with assistance from the Knights of Columbus. The new chapel will feature several aesthetic elements inspired by the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, the home of St. Juan Diego’s tilma.
