The Heart of Our Mission

Blessed Michael McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus with a keen understanding of every man's call to holiness and a fatherly vocation. Cor (Latin for "heart") continues this mission by centering men's hearts on Jesus so they can be transformed by an authentic relationship with him and each other.

Everything flows from the heart. If you get the heart right, you get the man right – a man of faith who will courageously live out the mission God calls him to.

Through prayer, we encounter Christ and deepen our faith and relationship with him.

Why Christ-Centered Brotherhood?

In a world that often promotes isolation, we can forget that God designed us for community. We are not meant to walk this journey of faith alone.

The bond of Christ-centered brotherhood helps men remain focused on their mission to grow in holiness. It fosters a sense of duty to one another — we are our brother’s keeper. We desire the good of our brothers as much as our own, striving to support one another in becoming the husbands, fathers and saints that God calls us to be.

As the center of our bond, Jesus is the unifying source of our strength, purpose, and direction.

What is Christ-Centered Brotherhood?

Christ-centered brotherhood is a bond formed through baptism, uniting us as adopted sons of God and brothers with Jesus.

As brothers in Christ, we are called to grow in relationship with Jesus, sharpen each other in virtue and support one another in living out our Catholic faith. We strive to live a life worthy of our calling — to become the men God created us to be, and to walk together toward heaven.

In a world full of distractions, Cor reminds us we were made for relationship with God and one another. Jesus didn’t call men to follow him on their own. Instead, he formed a brotherhood of disciples, taught them the Truth and sent them out together to transform the world. At Cor, we continue that mission by walking side by side, supporting one another in our struggles and celebrating our victories in faith.

Cor is designed to help men intentionally and regularly come together to live out authentic brotherhood. It provides structured opportunities for prayer, formation and fraternity. These gatherings are not just about deepening our knowledge of faith — they’re about strengthening our bond as brothers and encouraging each other to live the life God has called us to.

Alongside brothers in Christ, men become better husbands, fathers and members of their communities.

What is Cor Like?

What Is Cor Like?

Flexible: Each gathering follows a flexible framework of prayer, formation and fraternity. The content, order and length of each part are tailored to what works best for the group.
Consistent: It’s recommended to hold Cor twice monthly, typically for 60-90 minutes.
Intentional: Christ-centered brotherhood doesn’t just happen. It requires intentional structure, commitment and time to build trust, respect and support.
Collaborative: Cor is not meant to compete with other men’s ministries but to complement and strengthen them.

Cor Example:

Fraternity: Coffee and donuts with intentional conversation starter: “What talents has God given you? What is a hobby you would like to dedicate more time to?” (20 - 30 minutes)
Formation: Video 1 from Into the Breach/ small group discussion (25-35 minutes)
Prayer: Rosary (15-25 minutes)

Cor is designed for any man who desires to grow in his relationship with Jesus through authentic Christian brotherhood.

We welcome all men regardless of membership status with the Knights of Columbus or faith background.

With over 17,000 councils around the world and over 140 years of proven fraternity, the Knights of Columbus is uniquely positioned to offer a lasting and reliable framework for men to grow in Christ-centered brotherhood through prayer, formation and fraternity.

This model reflects how Jesus nurtured his disciples and prepared them for mission. Cor strengthens men in the same way — equipping them to lead and evangelize with courage and purpose.

The Knights of Columbus also provides abundant opportunities to put faith into action through councils’ charitable works. By serving their families, parishes and communities, men become living witnesses who point the world to Jesus Christ.
