Joe McInerney is Chief Strategy Advisor and Senior Vice President for Leader Development at the Knights of Columbus. As Chief Strategy Advisor he provides analysis and counsel to the CEO regarding the development and execution of strategic priorities. In addition, Joe leads the training team responsible for the leader development of all Knights of Columbus employees and members.
Prior to joining the Knights of Columbus in 2021, Joe served on active duty for twenty-nine years in the United States Navy retiring as a Captain. An accomplished military leader, he chaired the Department of Leadership, Ethics, and Law and was a Permanent Military Professor of Applied Ethics and Leadership at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Earlier in his naval career, Joe served as a Surface Warfare Officer in a variety of leadership positions.
Joe earned a bachelor’s degree from the United States Naval Academy, a Master of Theological Studies from the Pontifical Lateran University, and a Ph.D. from the Catholic University of America. An author of both academic and popular works, his most recent book, From Achilles to Superman: A Leader’s Guide to MacIntyre’s History of Ethics, was published by Cascade Books in 2025.
