    2019 College Council Awards

College Knights and councils recognized for work in Faith In Action programs

    by Andrew Fowler 10/1/2019

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — In recognition of its exemplary service and accomplishments last year, St. Peter’s University Council 7913 from Jersey City, N.J., received the Outstanding College Council Award at the 54th College Councils Conference.

Over the course of the year, Council 7913 took steps to maintain a visible and appealing presence on campus.  The council hosted a weekly, hour-long Catholic - oriented radio show with topics including the history of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in France and frequently asked questions about the faith.

Members also tutored refugees at a local Coptic Orthodox Church as part of the Christian Refugee Relief program, supported a seminarian through the Refund Support Vocations (RSVP) program and provided Food for Families in need.

Other college councils were also awarded for their distinguished efforts organizing Faith In Action programs. Faith In Action is a set of 32 programs recommended to all Knights of Columbus councils.

    Faith Activity Award
Rockhurst University Council 8970 from Kansas City, Mo., promoted prayer on campus by organizing 17-hours of Eucharistic adoration during almost every week of Advent and Lent.

    Family Activity Award
Lamar University Council 16464 from Beaumont, Texas, invited their family members to attend Masses with them. Knights participated in many facets of the liturgy including singing in a choir consisting entirely of Knights.

    Community Activity Award
Loras College Council 9224 from Dubuque, Iowa, held an event called “Night with a Knight,” in which members auctioned themselves off for a date to the highest bidder. The auction raised hundreds of dollars toward building a well in Africa.

    Life Activity Award
University of Waterloo Council 16859 from Waterloo, Ontario, held a pro-life fundraising dinner attended by students, parishioners and other members of the community. The dinner was also the launch for the council’s Student Pro-Life Initiative Fund, which is intended to provide financial support to pro-life groups at colleges and universities.
